Registration Opens for the 2nd Asia Parks Congress!

Registration for the 2nd Asia Parks Congress, as well as the Call for Proposals, has now been opened! The Congress will be held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 24 to 29 May 2022, and is being organised by Sabah Parks, IUCN and the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA). In order to facilitate the engagement of as many participants as possible, the Congress will be held as a hybrid event, combining both in-person and virtual participation.

The Congress is anticipated to be a watershed event and to set the agenda for protected and conserved areas in Asia for the next decade. Over 1,000 participants are expected, including representatives from government protected area agencies, non-governmental organisations, academia, the private sector, local communities, Indigenous people, youth and other stakeholders from across the region. Under the over-arching theme of “Parks for Nature and People”, the Congress will address:

  • Nature-based Solutions for health and well-being;
  • Governance of protected and conserved areas;
  • Connectivity and transboundary conservation;
  • Effective protected and conserved areas;
  • Economic and financial sustainability of protected and conserved areas; and
  • Urban conservation and a new generation.
