Asia is one of our most active regions with almost 35% of all CEM members belonging to countries in the continent and over 400 members being from India, including Vice Chair for Asia, Shalini Dhyani and South Asia Regional Chair, Deepu Sivadas, who have been extremely active during the past few years developing initiatives in the region. For this reason, we have decided to host our 54th Steering Committee in Thrissur, India, during March 12, 13 and 14th along with a 2-day workshop as a way to strengthen the involvement of Asia members and young professionals in the commission. We will be having talks, presentations, discussions and networking, where we will discuss some of the most relevant topics in the region, such as the Global Ecosystem Typology and the Red List of Ecosystems, young professionals, regional forest ecosystems, mangroves, agro-ecosystems, marine ecosystems, ecosystem governance, restoration, and protected area management among others. We are excited to have the presence of all CEM SC members as well as Stewart Maginnis, CEM’s focal point at Secretariat, David Keith and Emily Nicholson, Emmanuelle Cohen, as well as several regional group leaders and young professionals. |
